Introduction

The Badacsonyi Pincegazdaság (Badacsony Winery) was founded on 15th December 1995 by the Balatoni Borászati és Kereskedelmi Részvénytársaság (Balaton Winery and Trading Co. Ltd.). The aim of its establishment was to manage the wine-growing activities of the Balaton Uplands, which have a great tradition, in the form of an independent business corporation.

The founder, or more precisely, its legal predecessor was founded as a state enterprise in 1949 by the name of Badacsonyvidéki Pincegazdaság ( Winery of the Badacsony Area). Its activities covered the historic wine-growing regions of the northern part of Transdanubia.

The main activities of the enterprise: wine-growing

The corporation has its white and blue grapes processed in its winery in Zánka. The grapes are processed in a gentle way and fermented in a controlled manner in the modernly equipped wine house.

The white wines made with a reductive technology are treated and stored here, while the white and red wines which require mellowing are forwarded to the wineries of the enterprise in Tihany and Balatonfüred. There the wine is matured in 30 to 100 hl oak barrels for 3 to 18 months, depending on the variety and the vintage.

Grapes harvested from areas with thousands of years of wine-growing and wine-producing traditions ensure the wide wine selection of the company. Out of them the wines of Somló, Pannonhalma, Balatonfüred-Csopak and Tihany are the most well-known.

The Badacsony Winery grows grapes and produces wine on the vineyards of the historic wine-growing regions of North-Transdanubia, preserving the traditions and using the most modern technologies.

Among the wines you can find reductive, light and aged, full-bodied white wines, late-harvested dessert wines, fresh rose wines, light, fresh and aged, robust red wines.

Besides wines of the latest vintages, the corporation possesses a considerable collection of museum pieces, from which the Habsburg Selection wines have been chosen by Mihály Habsburg of Lotharingia, the director of the joint-stock company.

The bottled wines of the company can be found on the wine shelves of most significant chain stores in Hungary, as well as in some other countries in Europe and across the sea.
