The Balatonfüred-Csopak wine-growing region covers the southern slopes and valleys of the mountain range extending along the northern shore of Lake Balaton, starting from the eastern end of Lake Balaton and ending in Zánka. Its most well-known areas are around Csopak, the Balatonfüred vineyard, the Nivegy valley, Dörgicse, the area of Zánka and the mountain range extending from Pécsely as far as Monoszló.
The differences in soil conditions and environmental impacts of the various areas and the wide range of grape varieties ensure the diversity and uniqueness of the wines produced in this wine-growing area.
Olaszrizling from Balatonfüred-Csopak
It is made from the grapes grown in the Csopak and Balatonfüred areas of the wine-growing region. Wines from the area of Csopak are rich in acids, full-bodied and fiery, which is due to the unique soil conditions, the influence of the so-called red soil. Wines produced around Balatonfüred are smoother, softer and richer in fragrance. The Olaszrizling is extremely rich in fragrance and flavour in good vintages. Its typical bitter almond bouquet offers a unique experience.
The wine-growing region of Mt. Somló is one of the smallest wine-growing regions in Hungary. Like in the case of the wine region of Mt. Badacsony, Mt. Somló is also a monadnock of volcanic origin. The most striking characteristic feature of the wines of Mt. Somló is the co-called 'Somló bouquet' which is due to soil that was formed from volcanic basalt and tufa. Wines produced on Mt. Somló are real 'manly wines' with rich acid content. They mature into full-bodied, fiery wines after a longer period of mellowing.
Juhfark from Mt. Somló
It is a grape variety which has been grown for a long time and which produces a particularly good quality wine in this wine-growing region. The typically high acid content, the fiery and rich character, which is due to the volcanic soil, give a harmonious, full-bodied wine after being matured in wooden barrels.
Furmint from Mt. Somló
It is a variety having fine acids which has really found its place on Mt. Somló. It produces a full-bodied, really 'manly' wine which shows its full richness of flavour and bouquet in its several-year-old vintages.
The Badacsony wine-growing region is characterized by well-known basalt cones. The soil of volcanic origin produces full-bodied and fiery wines. The character of the wines produced on the various mountains is greatly determined by their proximity to Lake Balaton, as a result, the wines of Mt. Badacsony are the most fiery amongst them. The wine of Mt. St. George is characterized by its high acid content, the wine of Szigliget is of a lighter character, while on the loess soil of the basalt cones around Tapolca milder but very rich wines are produced.
Szürkebarát from Mt. Badacsony
It is the most typical variety of this wine-growing region. It is characterized by its mineral flavour due to the soil of volcanic origin, by its fine acids and light, typical fragrance.
Kéknyelű from Mt. Badacsony
The Kéknyelű is an ancient Hungarian grape variety which produces a full-bodied, 'manly' wine. It is recommended to be consumed with Hungarian dishes.
The Tihany Peninsula is the only area on the northern shore of Lake Balaton where blue grapes are traditionally grown. There are extremely good conditions for wine-growing on the soil of volcanic origin on the sheltered slopes around the Inner and the Outer Lakes. The area called Farkasverem (Wolf Den) can be found near the Outer Lake where these wines originate from.
Cuvée from Tihany
It is made from Cabernet Franc and Zweigelt varieties. From the marriage of these two varieties we receive a harmonious wine which we bottle after a year's maturation in oak barrels.
Cabernet Franc from Tihany
It is also produced from the grapes grown in the area called Farkasverem. This rich, fiery red wine is the result of the unique conditions of the slopes between the Outer and the Inner Lakes. Its extraordinary bouquet and fragrance resembling forest fruits develop after mellowing in wooden barrels and bottles.
